Change of Pace

For the last 4 years, Tony Jackson has been racing his EK like there is no tomorrow, and I'm not talking about the type of racing you do with your single-cam from stoplight to stoplight. Tony has entered countless track events, and spent more time at a track than a sprinter training for the Olympics. I sat down with Tony to talk to him about what he has been up to and what the future holds in store.

What made you decide to change over to an integra from your civic?
Ever since the
Type R first came to North America in 1997 I always wanted one. In 2000 I picked up a 94 RS and tried to make it somewhat an ITR. I had the RS a little over a year and quickly jumped into the EK without doing everything I wanted to the RS. Fast forwarded a few years I have this EK that is getting more and more uncomfortable to commute to work in with all the track parts I have on it. I needed two cars. Having done just about everything and then some I wanted to do to the EK I felt I could put it back to stock and switch the parts over to an ITR chassis without feeling too much guilt or regret. So far I'm happy with the results. I just need to get this new car to the track!

What are your plans with the integra? (track events, future mods, etc.)
My plan was to make this the JHP USA time attack car and also my personal track car. Now that my civic was stolen the integra might be a little more watered down version of a full track car so I can drive it to work.

Having now owned both, which chassis do you like better, EK or DC?
Aesthetically, I'm definitely in love with the DC chassis with the JDM frontend. I won't know how much I'll like the type r performance wise until I get it on a track and start tuning it.

What’s your best placing at a track event?
In an actual timed event I'd have to say the Super Street/Euro Tuner Time Attack in November of 2004. The event was invite only so I had to talk to someone at Super Street to get myself in and represent JHP. That being done last minute I entered the Limited FF class which is the street driven front wheel drive class. Without any preparation I drove my car up to buttonwillow the morning of the time attack. My best time around Buttonwillow's configuration #1 clockwise was 2:05.1 which landed me 2nd place behind Progress/Hasport's crx with a supercharged K20a motor.
